2025 Grafton Wood & Butterfly conservation - John Tilt
Grafton Wood & Butterfly Conservation - John Tilt - 16 January 2025
Grafton Wood is an ancient semi-natural broad-leaved woodland jointly owned by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and Butterfly Conservation. The wood is the epicentre of the only population of brown hairstreak butterflies in the Midlands. Volunteers from both conservation charities have helped the butterflies to increase in range and in numbers.
The wood is also important for other woodland butterflies and moths. Many fungi have been recorded in the wood and it also supports a distinctive flora. A wide range of birds can be seen and a colony of Bechstein’s bats roost in the wood
